I’ve always had a passion for textiles and especially fibre
crafts, but lately I’ve found myself more and more drawn into the world of
fluffy stuff. I’ve been doing a lot of experimenting with spinning and dying
and thought it would be fun to share some of the things I’ve been doing, so
here I am starting a little blog all about my fibre adventures.
I suppose all journeys (and this blog feels like the beginning
of one) have to have a starting point, so what better place than my latest
experimentations. Last weekend I had a go at dying some tops and batts with
some new acid dyes which arrived that week. This is the first time I’ve done
any dying other than a little go a few weeks back with some friends and here’s what happened…
I started out with some superwash merino/nylon 70/30 top and I blended some supewash merino with super bright nylon
the top I decided to dye in pineapple colours
and the blended batt in the colours of one of my favourite flowers, fratillary
I poured on the colours
and squidged them in
here they are all rolled up in cling-film in the steamer ready to cook
and heres how they looked after they were cooled, rinsed and dried
I've already spun up the pineapple tops which is destined for socks
I'm really pleased with the results and can't wait to have another go!
